OT:BIO (John Reeds)

Hey, I'm not actually "new", just gone for about 5 weeks after being "downsized" and buying a new home computer, setting up an e-mail address, etc. The nom-de-plume derives from chronic sore feet I've been fighting for the past year, although some might claim it to be a fair assessment of my abilities.

I live in southern California (San Juan Capistrano, zone 9b), and have for most of my life. The weather's nice, but when I moved 6 years ago it took 6 months to find a house on a lot large enough for flowerbeds (a little better than 1/3 acre). Been working on a massive backyard project the last 2-3 years, with a lagoon-style swimming pool and a slope terraced with raised beds for planting. All the sprinkler work is a nightmare (more so given my problem feet), but I'm making progress. Can't have a yard without iris. I've been growing them for about 12-13 years, and dabbling seriously (though limited) with hybridizing. I have about 300 different TB's and 30 louisianas, mostly newer stuff. My favorite hybridizer is Joe Ghio (Double Click has had an extra-well branched stalk blooming for about 4 weeks now); I also love stuff by Blyth, Hager, Keppel, etc.

Well, now to hit the job postings looking for MEMS or Optomechanical Engineer listings.
