If you are able to save it as a TIFF, you can probably use an OCR program on
it. However, before you go to all that trouble, if you can change the
format of your e-mail messages, make sure that a reply will show the
original message, hit reply on the message, then select plain text as your
message format. That should convert the rich text to plain text and you can
cut and paste. You may simply be able to cut and past from the rich text
message into a word processor, or Notepad, or whatever, and then massage the
data to what ever format you need.

Our club pres sent me an rtf file with an embedded image of a scan of a
sheet of paper with our club membership/addresses typed on it. I can
save the embedded image in all kinds of file formats, but so far,
haven't figured out how to get at the contents of the image file to edit
it - I'd like to convert it to a text file and add email addresses..
Is there software that can tell that the image is composed of words and
can magically convert them to a text file? If so, what software do I
need to do this? I'm wondering if it's some of the various photo
editing softwares that I already have or if this is something I can't
do.
