Re: CULT: iris borers - how do they know?

Excellent question. If borer eggs do, in fact, hatch after the first
couple consecutive 70+ degree days, then they often hatch here during the
period when deer are still keeping my iris fans trimmed right down to the
ground. What do the borer hatchlings do then? Do they go directly for
the rhizomes? Do they enter the chewed off fan bases? Do they buy plane
tickets for someplace devoid of deer?

Here, here!!! I'll second that vote! There seems to be much about
borers that is still unknown or uncertain. It sure would be helpful to
have an accurate and comprehensive understanding of this particular enemy.
