REB: Notes in passing...

Well, Double Click is finally blooming at a suitable time to cross it with my
reblooming SA wild plicata seedling; the pollen I saved from the plic on its
earlier rebloom is marginal at best, but another stalk is just a week or so
away.
Proud Tradition (huh!?!) keeps on blooming; will almost bloom out. Set to
Music and Wild Wings have been throwing some rebloom stalks, plus some very
short attempts from Bursting Bubbles.

All the comments on west coast rhizomes rotting; I always order early to avoid
sellouts, being very selective with what I want. When iris arrive in
95-degree July, I don't like to plant them in the sun. I generally pot them
up right away (for better moisture management) and leave the pots on the east
side of the house, so they are shaded from ~ 1:00 on. I plant them after the
weather cools to below 80-degrees, generally around late October. By that
time I can sometimes lift out and plant the 5-gallon rootball in one piece,
adding all that rich amendment to my topsoil at the same time. The only
things I have frequent trouble with rotting on are most of the luminatas and a
few plicatas, generally consistent with certain breeding lines.
