Re: TB: Sea Power (was Wister Medal speculation related)

The place: Ottawa, z4bish

The time: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003

The garden: reasonable microclimate, fair soil, good sun exposure.

The performance: 2000: Very good - one spike, 18 days bloom, pollen parent for multiple crosses, pod parent for four crosses.
2001: Best clump in the garden. Lousy year for crosses, responsible for half of all successful takes. Had to divide clump. 2002: Second best clump in the garden. Another lousy year for crosses. Only a third of successful takes.
2003: Don't know, out of the country during bloom season. No TB crosses made.

Problem: Haven't seen it outside of my garden.

Judge's take? It hasn't got a chance of a Wister in 2004. It isn't eligible. Wait until 2005.
If it wins a Wister in 2005, then it becomes immediately eligible for the American Dykes Medal in 2006 and remains eligible until 2008.
And speculating on the Wister should be a winter subject. We're in rebloom season, I'd prefer to hear some reports cause I've got nothing going on this year.

Regards,

Sandy Ives in Ottawa (who isn't finished digging, let alone planting)
