FAV: '03 bearded favorites

The TBs actually did better than the Medians with all the rain
this year. The IBs were seemed to fare the worst but some were
among the best in our garden:

1) MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (L. Baumunk '98) M.S.D.'s pollen
parent was our old friend, WHAT AGAIN. (SDB) If you don't have
this, you are missing something...reliable and gorgeous.

2) SEASON TICKET (Keppel '95 - from Gatty). SEASON TICKET was
the clear favorite of garden visitors. Great color.

My bearded favorites this year were:

SIMMER (BB, Lynn Markham)
CELTIC GLORY (TB, Hal Stahly)
VIOLET SHIMMER (TB, Walter Moores)
HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS (TB, Roger Duncan)

and pretty much everything of Jim and Vicki Craig's especially
QUINALT, BB and RAVE REVIEW, MTB.

FESTIVE GLOW (MTB,Willott) and OZARK DREAM (MTB,Fisher) were
both outstanding. This was the first year for OZARK DREAM and it
had a long bloom season. FESTIVE GLOW deserves to a spot in
everyone's garden...great color.

My favorite SDBs this year:

WIZARD'S RETURN (Rick Tasco)
KIT FOX (Lowell Baumunk)
PRIVATE FIRST CLASS (Rick Tasco) and you thought he only did the
'big' ones :-)
LIME SMOOTHY (Terry Aiken)

(My husband chose KIT FOX as his favorite - I would like it a
little taller but it is outstanding showing the vigor of its
'Daddy', JAZZAMATAZZ. )

MTBs and SDBs often bloom in one year here as opposed to TBs and
Siberians that take much longer...which is why MTBs are fast
becoming my fav. class. I like smaller flowers anyway but I do
like tall flowers so they can be seen better. MTBs and
Siberians usually bloom taller here than their registered
height. SDBs bloom registered height or a mite taller here. Most
IBs bloom registered height or a little shorter.

IMMORTALITY shows no sign of rebloom this year..our only one
that reblooms. :-(

Temp. this morning: 34 F (1.5 C)..no frost but the darn bearded
foliage looks dreadful..like it has been thru a fire. I guess
that is called frost burn (so some frost hit). Siberian foliage
is looking pristine and enchanting as usual.
