TB: OTHER; squirrel damage

Well, I guess the squirrels in my yard heard some of you were having squirrel trouble, and decided I wouldn't be exempt! Yesterday one pulled out my BIT OF CHOCOLATE, and chewed off the tiny fan (new rhizome). Then today, he did the same to CHINESE TREASURE (new to my garden) also, then chewed the two center leaves from my new FANCY WOMAN, and pulled GNU SPREAD out of the ground. In the past, I have tried cayenne pepper (and at the risk of sounding cruel, I really don't care if it gets in their eyes if it'll keep 'em from pulling out my rhizomes)! A little bit of eye-watering will rid the eye of the pepper, anyway. Also, I have tried mothballs - to no avail (although they DO keep the skunks away). I really doubt there's anything you can do except keep a dog right near the gardens at all times!
