EPICENTER, however, has two fans, one medium sized, one small after two
years
growth. It has produced one blooming stalk which was spindly and weak,
then
fell over the first year, and then this year it produced a blind bloomstalk
due to frost damage. It is growing in a protected location near the house
but
does have competition from a more vigorous grower ( RARE TREAT ) and
perhaps
some tree roots.

Neil:
Certainly iris can perform differently in different climates. For me,
Epicenter started out at the sunny, downhill end of a bed, and a
thumbnail-sized rhizome bloomed the first year and produced 15 excellent
(though slender) stalks the second year. It is doing fine now in poor soil
and barely 3/4-day sun, but it probably preferred the full sun given adequate
water & drainage.
