Friendship Gardens and LADY FRIEND

Hello, friends --

I spoke with Joan at Friendship Gardens in June when I was fighting damp-off
of my new sprouts and seeking her advice. She said the rains have really
slowed them down. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why some orders are slow
being filled.

In my own case, the rains here (heaviest since 1903) have about doubled the
time I have had to spend in the garden. During bloom season I had to spend
more time staking than I could making crosses. I am still finishing up
planting. As I write, the first blows of Hurricane Isabel are thrashing the
trees in front, and the wind chimes are going crazy at the kitchen window.
Fortunately, I just finished removing one small tree and trimming another that
were crowding a front garden just before the rain hit in earnest.

And, by the way, these rains have hit LADY FRIEND hard here in the
mid-Atlantic region. Those who haven't lost it here are holding onto their
few remaining rhizomes. Would anyone out there like to sell me a couple of
healthy rhizomes? I don't want to lose a year in the breeding program.
