I would be interested in hearing from the folks that use the online
Irisregister. I am thinking about sending in my money for this but since
I would still have to buy all the hardcopies as they come out (because
the online doesn't include the most recent years), I am hesitant to
spend the additional money.
So I'd like to know what you all like (or don't like) about it, how you
use it, and your opinion of its usefulness for you.
Yes, I know, it would be an individual thing. To be honest, I would
spend *$20* a year in a heartbeat if it provided access to *all* the
registered iris. (Yes, I know, that's more than than cost of the
hardcopy, $7 a year, plus the online of $10, but worth the added
convenience of not having to do both.)
thanks in advance
Cathy, I have been on "Search for an Iris" since about the beginning and
happily pay my registration fee, even tho the most recent years are not on. I
also maintain the hardcopy for all the years because I need them for shows.
These are the reasons I am very happy with it:
As a participant in local sales efforts, I can get all the info nececessary
to make a list of items for sales to copy and paste-can't stand to retype but
everyone wants the description!!
As an Editor (SJI REVIEW and the MIS Medianite), I constantly have to check
spelling and registration year. I have found them to be very accurate. Plus,
I can track registrations by hybridizers for purposes of soliciting articles
about that hybridizer.
I can answer all local questions (not on hort-net where there are lots of
people to answer individual questions) about registration info.
Also, I know from hort-net, lots of people are interested in genology of
particular irises and it sure saves the eyesight in searching for
backgrounds/parentage. I also know that it must save new hybridizers lots of time searching
for names registered previously-even if the most recent ones are not on there.
Contrary to the original fears that the on-line version would adversely
affect R & I sales, I don't believe it has and sure has made life lots easier for
us technophiles!!
Really worth the $$ to me!
