Re: REB:Rebloomers Revisited

So, is LILTING a rebloomer, or does it just make a habit of blooming out
of season after being disturbed?"

I think that is an excellent point and potentially true for many Irises
that have only a few reports. Other cultivars are so well reported that
there is little doubt about them.
Some cultivars are likely more inclined than others to respond oddly to odd
conditions, and it is possible that some of these perform off season only
under abnormal conditions. Anything that causes a disruption could be a
cause. Weather events can be a big cause, even if the plant isn't
physically disturbed. If circumstances aren't noted along with the
reports, then the reports (in my mind) are incomplete. I think any report
is valuable, but the more information included with it, the more valuable
it becomes. Obviously all circumstances aren't possible to report, but
unusual events such as severe drought, a freeze or prolonged cold snap in
the middle of the summer, a late warm autumn, early warm spring, a flood,
etc. would all seem to count, in addition to any recent disturbance such as
dividing, moving, chemical damage, etc. All these things could cause a
plant to act odd. Just the fact that it can act odd more easily than
others seems worth knowing about though.
