Rainy day, so just spent some time catching up on posts in the spaceage
robin. There was a thread started by Will Warner, asking for info on
speeding up time from seed to bloom. Nice photo of seeds that
germinated in the fridge after 3 months

A few comments & questions
This is my third? season to burrito seeds. I've only had one cross (the
only SDB cross) germinate while still in the fridge.
Three months in the fridge gives me better germination than two.
Three months in the fridge (or outdoors, if it's cold enough) followed
by one month out in the sun porch, followed by another month of cold
outdoors triggers some germination in seeds that normally need two
winters of chill to germinate, but not much. Moving seeds indoors to
germinate after a second fall outdoors for a month or so of cold (Nov
Dec) might give higher germination rates - will try that this year, but
they will still be a year behind.
======Has anybody found a reliable way to trick those delayed germinants
into germinating the first year? They seem to be tougher plants here,
tho I don't have enough data yet to be sure.
I still don't know for sure what temperatures are best/essential for
germination. Obviously, some seeds germinate in the fridge (temperature
around 40oF?) for others, but that doesn't seem to be true for my
crosses. Folks here have said and I've read that temps around 50 to
60oF are optimal germination temps for TBs. But I think some others
have said they get good germination at room temperature (70's F?) after
burrito-ing? Temps in my sunroom when seeds are germinating are around
50 or 60oF.
=====What temperatures have given good/best germination for TB's after
chilling (burrito, outdoor, or whatever?)
Thanks in advance for info.
