Neil, I don't quite follow what you mean. In the photo, the backs of
the falls look very light colored, pale lavender, almost pink, but the
surface of the falls is a dark purple. Not what I think of as a wash.
But there is that odd brownish yellow rim that shows both front and
back, appears to be the same color - so is that pigment all the way
through the petal or two layers the same color, top and back?
My SDB seedling has similar coloring, but the back of the petal has two
layers visible, one extending all the way to the rim that is one color
(tan), another light colored (light yellow) layer corresponding
approximately to the outline of the dark spot (burgundy) on the upper
side of the fall. The rims are noticeably thinner than the rest of the
petal. Except at the hafts, where the yellow layer extends all the way
to the rim, giving a slightly different color effect (closer to yellow)
to the rim in that part of the fall.
The photo of RAMESES looks like that might be true of it also.
Neil says:
<RAMESES is a
bicolor with an odd-looking wash in the fall.
Considering its ancestry, I'd
say it has the Umbrata, but not as obvious as the
other, quite possibly a low
dosage effect of the factor. >
