Another reason to have both - since the online checklist is an exact
(well, it tries) copy of the books, it doesn't work very well for
searches for colors (too many different descriptions within color
groups) or patterns (i.e., plicata - many descriptors for this also).
Also, with a big list of names like the one I got for introductions with
rims or edged, it is faster to print out the list of names (which the
database gives), then format the data so it can be sorted by date, then
look up descriptions in the checklists, rather than go through one at a
time, click for the rest of the description, go back, click for the next
one, go back, etc. If the search results gave the full description
instead of just the first few fields, that would be nice.
It would also be nice to have the search engine set up so it could
simultaneously do searches in each of the separate fields, i.e.,
search hybridizers for "Brown",
year of intro for "198" (80s iris), type of iris for "ib" (a <lot>
of words in the description field contain that letter combination),
color for pink, pedigree for BLUE).
The only way I know to do that current is to do the searches separately,
then merge them using my own software (if I knew how <g>)
