Neil, the seedling I posted on Sunday, 1812-1RE, is the first of the cross to
bloom. 2003 seed. I lined out everything (92) that was big enough, during
the first 2 weeks of May. A small handful have perished or they are showing no
signs of growing. By frost I expect to see 8 - 10 different ones bloom. Two
more already have stalks about 18 inches high, and the others are still lumps
in the fans. If an early frost threatens I will protect them. I find this
fascinating. Shall I post the others as they bloom? One of the other stalks is
bad. A middle branch is missing!
1812 is Lemon Reflection x (Innocent Star x Radiant Bliss). My ultimate goal
is a good med to deep yellow background with red overlay. LR was used
because it has good branching, dependable rebloom, and it was the only good yellow
blooming when I carried the pollen home from my seedling patch in the country!
The pollen parent is plicata . . . white with cream and red overlays. Strong
rebloom.
I'd expected most of them to be plicata until I saw the first one bloom.
Then I started remembering what I'd read in TWOI. So, I really confused myself.
Of course, if I was a patient person, I could just wait and SEE what I get!
Speculation is fun!
