Bruce Filardi, Editor of the Bulletin of the American Iris Society, informs
me today that J. Owings Rebert of Maryland, distinguished collector of
irises,
including historic irises, and longtime valued member of Region 4 of the
Society, died last night. I
I join Reg. 4, AIS members, and historic iris lovers in mourning this loss. I
did not know J. Owings personally, but I will never forget the beautiful
garden he and Doris presented 1991 conventioneers with. It was my first national
convention, and I was astounded with the display of historics, in particular. I
had not realized that older irises could be so impressive, or even
"innovative." MOONLIT SEA in particular, was a wonderful education. I did not rest until
I secured a rhizome of it, and that was just the beginning.

Belated thanks to the Reberts for all their efforts, and my condolences to
family and friends.
