Preen has been a godsend for me. One of my raised
iris beds is right
next to my husband's native prairie restoration
project and some of
those native Wisconsin forbs and grasses can be
downright invasive in a
newly cultivated plot. I put the Preen down in
the spring after the
last frost date, and again in late summer/early
fall as the forbs and
blue stem grasses are beginning to flower and go
to seed. It doesn't
work against invading rhizomatous grasses that
come up from below, but
it does keep the seeds from germinating in the
iris beds. Any little
bit of weed control that doesn't involve pulling
is a good thing in my
book.
