As for prevalence of fungal spot vs bacterial spot, keep in mind that
Bill didn't know what a June bug is. A big noisy green winged insect
common across the entire southeast and known by every kid who every
picked blackberries in the region, character in the saying 'fast as a
duck on a June bug'. So he may not know prevalence of spot disease
vectors everywhere. :-)

Now that is one BIG bug. I have seen some big bugs in Japan and Vietnam but none were anywhere near big enough to give a duck a ride. Had them big enough to knock your hat off in Vietnam. Wing span about 10". Though June Bugs were reddish brown and Japanese Beetles iridescent green. No bug expert here. They both sound the same when you smash them. Glad Chiggers (sp) are not big as June Bugs, If they were I would never go near a blackberry patch.

When I was young we would tie a long thread to the back leg of a June Bug. Then we would dog fight( like airplanes) with them. Too long ago to remember how the winner was determined.

Back to leaf spot. I compost all my iris leaves spots or not. When the weather is right for it I have leaf spot. Other years I have all most none. I plant too close so air circulation is very poor. When it starts to get bad I spray with Daconil. The worst cases of leaf spot occur on iris planted in new beds. Three times I have made new beds in areas that no iris had ever been grown. Had more leaf spot than I ever had before.
