CULT: pests

Crickets are particularly bad this year.  They have killed several 2d-year
seedlings by burrowing into the ground at the base of the fan and eating the
rhizome underground.  Until I discovered what was going on, nothing was
apparent until the fan fell over.  I have covered the most threatened beds
with diatomaceous earth, which is very costly.  It seems that, whatever the
weather conditions in our area, there is a plague to go with them.  --  Griff
