I had three or four seedlings this spring that put up a stalk and no
increases. Years ago, I saved a particularly pretty purple seedling by setting a
pod. Or so I thought. It put up two increases, one of which bloomed that
fall, and the other the next spring. I don't fight it in the seedling beds any
more. Don't want to perpetuate something that's going to be a problem.

Last year NOBLE DRAGON came from OZ with no increases. When it made no
effort to grow I was concerned. I dug, nicked, and moved it, all with no
results. By spring it was gone, but I suspect it was dead long before. Nicking,
was one of many techniques I'd read about years ago. I think it was supposed
to create a shock effect, but, in this case, it didn't work.

My loss of ORANGE STAR to bloom out started my quest for information! One
of my all time favorite irises and it was a great personal loss. I was told
by some that OS was prone to bloom out.
