CULT:how much is too much water

I received the following email from a friend in Albuquerque NM.  Since I am 
unfamiliar with the climate & I am certainly no expert with iris, I was 
wondering if any of you can give her some advice & I will forward it to her.

I have a question and cannot find the answer so knew you would have it,   I 
never watered my iris a lot in Ne. and had beautiful, healthy ones.   Ours here 
had very few blooms and look bad.  In fact the ones I brought only one of 
them bloomed.  Dave waters a lot and of course the flowers are included in that, 
I think he is over watering and that is the reason most of the iris look so 
bad and have not done that well this year.   Please give me some input on the 
care of them.    Thanks.
