Just out of curiosity, would it make a difference how long between your first freeze
and the ground being frozen? We traditionally have our first freeze Halloween
weekend but I bet the ground doesn't actually freeze until late December or
January.
Just wondering?
Dana

Linda,
We have alot of frost heaving problems here in Utah. Our rule of thumb
is get it into the ground 6 weeks before the first freeze. Our average
first freeze is Oct 13th, but we have had first freezes as early as Sept
13th. (Yesterday several cities in Utah did get their first frost). I try
to get everything done by Labor Day at the extreme latest. I want to have
those rhizomes get as many and as deep a root system in place before the
ground freezes hard.
