Thanks all for all the great information.

Just finished lining out a batch of small seedlings (outdoor germinants
last spring) and was wondering how much protection they might need.

I'm used to planting mature rhizomes this late and later, but wasn't
sure about these little ones.

Average first frost here is mid Oct, typical first ground freeze (if it
freezes at all) is after Christmas, 8 or 10 wks later.  Nighttime air
temperatures haven't reached below 60 yet this fall, so it will be a
while before even surface soil temps get anywhere near 40.
