TB: Fading colors

I am interested in Linda's comments about whether or not hybridizers are
considering color fading in their selections.  Celebration Song is one
of the most faded irises there is.  It starts out in the morning a
lovely salmon pink over lavender flower.  By noon it's just a very pale
pink.  Even worse is its older parent Lullaby of Spring.  I got rid of
it after the second year because it always looked dirty white at my
place.  I can't recognize my pastel Chasing Rainbows in the deep colored
pictures I see of it.  In some cases, fading is part of the pattern.
Notably Dandy Candy which opens plain purple and fades to its
distinctive purple/buff pattern.  I have a seedling, now registered as
Rachel Julia, that opens a yellow/rose-violet bicolor and quickly fades
to a yellow/rose bicolor becoming more beautiful as it does.  Therefore
fading like haft marks often detracts, but can sometimes enhance the
beauty and character of the iris.
