Re: AIS: Dual Membership in club rules

I don't post here much, but I have pretty strong feelings about local clubs, so here goes.

$20 seems very high to me. IMHO, local clubs are THE best way to get new people interested in irises... and AIS membership. Dues should be low so they are a no-brainer; folks who are on the fence about joining might balk at $20, maybe even $10. Dues should be the easy part of the decision. I've belonged to 4 local clubs in 3 different states, and dues were $3 for one, $5 for two, and the one I belong to now I believe is $10.

I know of no price breaks for membership in more than one local club, and for those prices, I didn't expect any.

I can think of one area where dues might be reduced, and this is if there is an option for newsletters/meeting notices to be sent electronically. If a member opts to receive notices electronically, maybe their dues could be reduced because the club does not have to pay postage. Just a thought I have, but I've not seen this in practice anywhere. Not yet, anyway.

Funds are important, don't get me wrong, but I don't think local clubs should depend on dues to get them. Rhizome sales and auctions are a great answer; not only do they raise good money for the club, they distribute irises to the public which hopefully results in more irisarians, more club members and more AIS members.
