Re: [Web]:Where is a good place to host our web site?

Thanks Kitty for the input.

Seems lots of places may be pulling the rug and people are left wondering
what to do.

John, I wouldn't trust your list (consumer-rankings) if my life depended on
it, I'm sorry to say.

The 3rd one on that list is IPower, who I used previously, and they had the
most rotten technical support I have ever had. I waited multiple times on
their tech line (music/messages playing) for an hour to 1 1/2 hours to get
someone just to answer (!), over a period of longer than a year. I even
filed
a complaint with their top tech manager, all to no avail. I finally moved
several websites I host to a different provider.

I teach computer science at a college. My students are quite savy when it
comes to hosting services. They all know about GoDaddy.com, it has an
excellent reputation, and they're not even listed on the list at
'consumer-rankings'.

The Web Host provider I use for Region 14 and others is HostMonster.com,
they
offer unlimited hosting space, they're low cost, and I've had Super
technical
support. They claim on their website "REAL 24/7 Non-outsourced support with
average hold times less than 2 minutes". I can attest that they answer
within
minutes, and they've always had someone who could answer advanced technical
questions... for free.

The 'top 10' listing service I use and teach in my classes is
http://www.web-hosting-top.com/ You will note that this list contains
GoDaddy.com, HostMonster.com, and BlueHost.com recommended by Elladan.
None
of those 3 are even on the consumer-rankings.. I think consumer-rankings is
a
scam sales marketing site. The http://www.web-hosting-top.com/ site
actually
listens to webmasters and takes consumer responses, as I sent them my
complaint about IPower, and suggested they do their own technical time test,
and they then removed IPower from their lists over a year ago.

For anyone thinking about getting a new web hosting ISP, TEST their
technical
support line. Find out how quick you can get an answer. A web host will
give
their technical support line phone number on their website, you can call it
even if you are not a customer... and then say you were just checking out
their service response time, to getting a real person. Before I made a
selection to replace the crummy IPower I used previously, that's what I did.
I selected 3 new ones based on price and what they offered, and then I
called
them on a couple different days, different times, to see how quickly they
answered, or how long I was put into their phone waiting pool.

Linda, I just called your anhosting, technical line... to 'test' their
response time. I have been on the phone in a que, only music, no person
yet,
for 15 minutes. I think you get put into this "que" when in reality there
is
no one there to answer the phone. I'm hanging up. Their failure to answer
the phone is unacceptable.

I hope this helps everyone.
