<<one in thirtysix to express tangerine.B >>
Thanks, Chuck. It's worth the effort, but I like having some idea of
the odds.

If you are crossing a seedling from a tangerine X a seedling from a
tangerine, expect one in thirtysix to express tangerine.B
B
More if one of the other parents caried a tangerine gene forward into
the F1B

While we're on the subject of the tangerine factor . . .B
B
How many seedlings would I have to produce, theoretically, to pull theB
tangerine beard back out of some of my children? I'm trying to createB
tangerine bearded rebloomers for my zone.B
B
I've many seedlings that are crosses between my rebloomers and thingsB
like CHINESE NEW YEAR, DECEDANCE, DRINKS AT SUNSET, etc.. ManyB
children and grandchildren from ROMANTIC EVENING. In most cases, theB
seedlings do not have red beards.B
B
How many generations will it take?B

A good experiment to do.BB
BB
But, every blue bearded pink I've looked at has tangerine at base ofB
beard, deep in throat. A lot of pinks with white beard also have theB
tangerine only show in base of beard, so many of the pinks with blueB
beards proably have the blue on a pale white section of beard. BlueB
plus pink would likely produce a bronzy beard.BB

Can an iris have four doses of tangerine factor and <not> have anyBB
red/pink in the beard?BB
BB
For example, in the blue bearded pinks, is theB
re red pigment in theBB
beard that is hidden by blue pigment? Or can there be four doses ofBB
tangerine factor but no lycopene in the beard?BB
BB
In other words, soaked in hot water to remove water soluble pigment,
isBB
there always some lycopene visible?BB
BB
I feel like I ought to know this already, that it's already beenBB
discussed - apologies for going over it again.BB
