CULT: Belamcanda

I've tried two more plants of this type this spring - 'Pink Leopard' (X Pardancanda) and the generic Belamcanda chinensis (now probably called Iris . Once again they're doing miserably. The generic Belamcanda has died outright. The 'Pink Leopard' has only grown just one fan that is now turning yellow and brown. Sadly there is no increase showing.
I've always heard that these enjoy the same conditions as bearded irises and that's what I've been giving them. The beardeds around them look fine so what might I be doing wrong?
