Preserving the flowers is nice but there may be a better way...
IF you pick your iris purchases *carefully* and give them good care you can
add several months to your bloom time. We started with an MDB in May and
have only been out-of-bloom once since then. (Of course, we have had
monsoon like rains, an all time record!)
Here is a list of the cultivars we cut and took to an iris society meeting
yesterday...
AUTUMN BUGLER F. Jones 86
AUTUMN ORANGELITE Brown G.P. 61
BORDER DUETTE R.G. Smith 66
GOLDEN ENCORE F. Jones 73
PINK ATTRACTION Hall E. 88
The previous week's bloom list included:
CORAL CHARMER Wright 83
SNOW-IN-SUMMER Cross 94
UNCHAINED MELODY Mahan R. 92
And, last year our unguicularis kept us in continuous bloom from late Oct
until middle March, skipping only three or four days after overnights
dropped into the teens (F.) We could hope to have a repeat this year except
we did not get the hot, dry summer unguics prefer.
