On the discussion over zones, could I just add a voice from elsewhere?
We don't have any easy access to USDA zones outside North America - although
of course we could work them out. Perhaps more importantly, it's not so
clear that they are as meaningful in a maritime or semi-maritime climate as
they are in a continental climate.
I'm not arguing against the idea - rather the reverse - I think it's a good
idea. This subject has been tackled by the alpine-L list, and the
recommendation there is that people sign off with their zone, _or_ the
minimum likely winter temperature where this is not appropriate. See my
sig. for an example.
A second suggestion relates to including your return address in your sig.,
since some e-mail packages suppress this in the header - including some
versions of Microsoft mail (I think), which is widely used in corporate
systems. Although it looks a lot extra to type, nearly all mail programs
let you enter this information as a .sig file, which either gets appended to
all your messages by default, or is added when requested.
It's not perfect I know, but I'm just offering them as suggestions for
discussion...
