When I was telling Dorothy about the rebloomers i should have
mentioned that the instructions which came with the irises said
they should have fertilizer 3 times a year. I didn't put any on
them this year at all. Do irises tolerate fertilizer in the fall?
Should i put some on?

Diana -- NO< NO NO NONNOOOO
no fertilizer in the fall!! It's cold, it's damp, what you DO NOT WANT is
new tender growth that is going to rot in the cold damp soil!!
Wait till spring, when you feel that urge to do something, and the iris
are about 3 inches high. fertilize, put on the cygon and stand back for
about 7 to 10 days, spray on some more cygon, and do that one more time
7 to 10 days later, and then in a couple of weeks (we're gardening now!!)
add some more fertilizer, maybe just before they bloom, then again fertilize
after the bloom, but WELL before the damp (floods this year) fall begins.
Let them grow and then harden off for winter!!
