Historic Iris Order Received

Hello, all! Just received my order last week from Sourdough Iris
Gardens in Bozeman, MT and am very pleased with size of rhizomes, length
of roots left on, etc. Here's my list, and then I have a couple of
questions someone may know the answer to. I have the 1939 and 1949
checklists but not the 1959 and 1969 ones.

Sable (Cook 1938), Violet Harmony (Lowery 1952), Lavender (old), Minnie
Colquitt (H.P.Sass 1942), Rosy Veil (?), Master Charles (Williamson
1943), Pink Plume (Schreiner 1951), Chantilly (Hall 1945), Grand Canyon
(Kleinsorge 1941), Blue Rhythm (Whiting 1945), Blue Shimmer (J.Sass
1942), Grape-Scented Blue (Pallida Dalmatica?, old), Black Ruby (Dolman
1948), Firecracker (Hall 1943), Gay Head (Knowlton 1954), Patrice
(DeForest 1945), Harvest Splendor (Kleinsorge 1956), Lady Mohr (Salbach
1944), Opal Beauty (Sass before 1935, unregistered?), Desert Song (Fay
1946), Tiffanja (DeForest 1942), Pinnacle (Stevens 1944), and Spindrift
(Loomis 1943).

1. Rosy Veil was listed with no hybridizer or year--anyone know the
data on this one?

2. A puzzle to me is that Violet Harmony is listed as having been
introduced in 1952, yet the 1949 checklist says 1948. Is the 1952 one a
different iris than the (Snow Flurry X Cloud Castle) 1948 one? Again, I
don't have the 1959 checklist to look at.

3. Do I treat Lady Mohr any differently from the TBs because it's an
arilbred?

4. Opal Beauty was not in the 1939 or1949 checklists--any info on this?
I have a description from Sourdough but would like the background on why
the Sasses didn't register it, if possible, and what year it was
hybridized. It's not in "The World of Irises", either.

This brings my total of iris to 84, all newly planted this year (or
about to be), so I am no expert on growing them. I have a lot of "book
learning" from 2 1/2 years worth of Bulletins, lots of catalogs, 2
checklists, "Iris For Every Garden" (Mitchell 1949), and "The World of
Irises", tho, if that counts. (And if I can remember any of it!!) :)

Thanks, gang.

Barb Johnson, enjoying the list. (This could be part of my bio which I
haven't sent you yet--it's coming, it's coming! Wait till I get some
more irises at Sunday's sale!!)
