Re: Pacific Coast Natives

Hello John!!!

I'm going to copy to you a letter from Sharon McAllister whose name is on
the list you sent (therefore, proving this list is not a "guy thing" (g)
)))

Never mind the strange arrangement of the lines... i was doing some word
processing and can't get it to change to left justify right now.

I like Sharon's comment -- wonder what the LIST will have to say, and
confirms my thought that things just got sidetracked. You can chime in
and respond to my message to the LIST!!

I'm REALLY glad you "pulsed the system" on the Iris-L -- I've been wondering
the same thing, but coming from me it would probably have been interpretted as
nagging!

There was a flurry of messages for about a week, with a growing undercurrent of
"what have I gotten myself into?!?" as those relatively new to working with
checklists came to realize this could involve some serous WORK.

It think the last ten years alone would involve close to 10,000 entries, a
comprehensive list somewhere between 50,000 and 75,000. (The arilbred list I
handled was only a little over 2,000 but still quite an educational experience.)

: Who is "chairing" that "committee"?? I suppose that person is the one who
: is collecting the data. Do you know where the data is coming from? Are
: they depending on hybridizers to supply the info?

It's not really that formal, but Chris Hughes is the one who assembled the team.
No one is yet collecting data. I was to get in touch with Keith Keppel and
sound him out on the project . (Which I did. He's supportive, willing & able
to provide the needed expert advice.) Someone is supposedly looking into the

keyed in and someone is doing some feasibility tests on
scanning. I think they are assuming everything will come from AIS.

I'll look forward to seeing what type of discussion you've started on the
Iris-L.

Sharon
