We use to say : when you talk abouut the troll they stand in the hall.
meaning. when you talk about another person he stands behind your back,
or if you talk about some thing it happens.

Or its more like an elf going around in my garden poking at the iris 
with an magic wand and casting spells, and saying: you are naughty
you must rot, but you are nice you shall bloom.

Now two of my iris have rot, and next to them two others send up their
bloomstalks.
