Now that sounds scarey.  It seems you could loose a whole iris bed to the
beastly borer.  I have unsubstatiated reports that the borer was 6 miles from
me in eastern Mass.  but I have no problems.  

I did put daizon in my garden to kill the cutworms and it worked but you are
right there  was barren soil, however earthworms are back in good number now.
