Be assured that the ladybugs will survive in the north, too, in the
same sort of leaf bin. Or just let the leaves pile up around your
plants and shrubs, to be cleaned away in spring. Might protect a
plant that is borderline hardy as well as give winter shelter to the
ladybugs. I do it all the time, and in the spring I'm turning up
ladybugs by the hundreds.
