Glen,
     This plant is some sort of herbaceous perennial.  It was here when I
moved here last fall, but it was not as tall because it had been mowed over
numerous times.  After the first freeze of last winter, the stalk dies, but
a rosette of leaves at the ground stays green.  On the stem, the leaves are
arranged in opposite pairs, but each set is "rotated" at a right angle to
the set below it.  The flowers come in purple clusters at and near the top.
