The botanical name of the "Chinese Lanterns" in question is Physalis
alkekengi. >>
And the term "Chinese Lanterns" is also applied to some Hibiscus species and
forms with dangling blooms, most particularly the very beautiful Hibiscus
schizopetalus which has small, pendant deeply filigreed blooms of sunset
coral. A dollbaby for sure.
All of which goes to prove you can't beat a good Latin binomial for keeping
some of this nomenclature straightened out.
