AIS: Club Meeting

From: "Rusty Thornsburg" <rtburg@mailexcite.com>

Hey everyone,

I couldn't figure out which subject heading to put this under... it's about Sunday's Guest Program/Auction at the Dallas group.

First off, it was an orderly guest program... we had our numbers, by alphabetical order, and as they were drawn out of a hat, each of us was able to go and choose a guest. Yours Truly picked up THOR'S LIGHTNING BOLT, which prompted a strangling gesture from Joe Spears...

He can wait a year.

Then it was auction time, and after the Fort Worth Auction debacle (which occured at home, and therefore is another email entirely...), Rusty was not given money to spend. Anyway, I was the auctioneer instead. And anytime a cultivar wasn't "moving," all I had to say was "if no-one bids, I get it for free" and that was all it took for (a) certain member(s) to raise their bid paddles. <WG> This was the first time (that I can think of) that people applauded someone... for taking their money! When it was all said and done, we raised almost $800 more than we'd projected, so I am very proud! In all due modesty.
