      The Horticulture experts here in TX say that with either sandy or clay
soils, the answer is to mix compost in.  It loosens clay soils and slows down
the water that percolates through sandy soils and helps them hold nutrients.
I have a compost pile and save every leaf, blade of grass, and kitchen waste
that I can get.  Any plant stuff such as potato peels, uncooked is great.  You
do not have to turn it like the experts say.  It just takes a little longer to
compost if left alone.  This should help.
