While at a lumber yard a few weeks ago , three pots of what was labeled
as Zebra Iris caught my attention , I was immediately intrigued until I
saw the price tag of $14.95.
Chris,
As others have stated that is pretty steep for that iris. Several
hybridizers have released some newer TBs with the varigated foliage. Brad
Kasperek of Zebra Gardens has several in his 1999 catalog. Two are species,
four are his introductions and two are from other hybridizers. There is a
Canadian hybridizer that has at least one introduction with varigated
foliage. Chuck Chapman is the hybridizer and the iris is CANADIAN STREAKER.
Rick Tasco and Roger Duncan of Superstition Gardens have a sport of a Keith
Keppel iris that should be ready for introduction in 2001. Not only is the
foliage varigated but so is the bloom. The foliage varigation extends all
the way through the spathe. At this time it is still under number, RR1.
It is probably too late for you to get these this year but you might want to
keep them in mind for next year.
