Dick Butler

Hello Irisarians:

I am sorry to inform you folks that Richard C. Butler, Sr., one of the
stalwart members of the American Iris Society--and a former Pres. of the
AIS Foundation--died this morning.  Dick has been in deteriorating health
for some time, and was getting much worse, and this morning well before
dawn he committed suicide by jumping into the Arkansas River.  He left
loving notes for his family and friends.  One of his irises, a TB named
MAUMELLE, is quite popular locally-- and that iris is merely one of the
legacies he left us.
