only had one soft rot this year, so far. Or, could it have
been eaten at the soil surface by pillbugs/rolly-pollys??? What is the best
remedy for those bugs in the garden?
Lynn,
If you consult the "experts" you will be told that the little critters won't
eat a rhizome. However, a few years ago, one of my first "major" purchases
at our bearded auction was Kasperek's BABOONS BOTTOM. This was one of
several that I bought. All the others were doing quite wonderfully. I
noticed that this one didn't seem to be going any where. When I looked
inside the entire rhizome was gone from the center out and in its place were
scads of these little bugs. I normally don't use chemicals but this was the
last straw. If I remember correctly the same type of treatment that can be
used for earwigs will succussfully get rid of the little critters.
