Well, I received my order from ASI and received one called
WERCKMEISTER'S CLONE 2. The truth is I can't find either
my order form nor the ASI catalog and can't remember this
one. Can anyone give me more info?<
OUCH! That's not much to go on -- sure hope you can find that catalog!
In the meantime, my GUESS that this is Dr. Peter Werckmeister's aril
seedling #1916-2. He died about 20 years ago and that's his most widely
distributed, unintroduced seedling. In terms of culture, think "tough RC".
Parentage: Bronze Beauty x (Teucros x I. susiana). The pod parent was
the regelia hybrid (I. hoogiana x I. stolonifera) not the TB. The pollen
parent was one of his experiments with induced tetraploidy. Seedling
#1916-2 has a very interesting background: five greatgrandparents are
regelia species [2 hoogiana, 1 korolkowii, 2 stolonifera] and three are
onco [1 iberica, 2 susiana].
Two sibs were widely distributed. The fully fertile one was introduced as
Werckmeister's Beauty. Clone 2 was counted as triploid.
