Actually, it depends on the moisture content of the flakes, when translating
snowfall into a water amount. However, a good average is 10" of snow equals
1" of water.

More like 15 feet, as I remember the ratio. It's a lot more than 2 to 1.
Of course, in sunny winterless Los Angeles, the more meaningful
comparison would be that what they got in a few hours was just about
twice what we were blessed with all last year.
