OK, I'm probably coming into this thread a little late, and, because Hotmail
has been giving me a hard time with my mail, I haven't read everyones posts.
Anyhow - My parents are pensioners, and keen gardeners, and keep all their
milk cartons, margarine containers, tin cans, etc. for potting, and any
little plastic trays for seed raising.
I can remember as a child, that everything was potted in tin cans, or
hessian containers. Seedlings were grown in wooden trays, and you took them
home wrapped in recycled newspaper.
Recycling is a good way to go - it seems that we consume far too much in the
way of plastic goods. In Australia fruit juice is available in large (approx
6" x 8"). These make excellent larger plant containers, and you just use a
can opener (the type that makes a triangular notch )all around the bottom to
provide drainage holes.
Hope this gives you some ideas,
Cheers, Jan Clark
