Since discovering Walter Moores' potting technique, I plant every iris I buy
straight into pots, and don't transplant them until they have roots coming
out the holes in the base.
Infact, I have found my irises to be so happy in pots, that I have around
200 plants growing in pots instead of in the garden. My more expensive
plants are not out in the garden rotting, and they are close at hand for
those 'mating rituals' that involve tweezers, marking pens, and, of course,
saliva. :-}
