Re: Cistus

I too have developed a great fondness for Cistus. And I have two general
questions for the list.

1. Does anyone know of a good book or resource listing species and
cultivars available, with descriptions, etc.? So far my only resources are
back issues of Heronswood catalogues, and a few articles from The Pacific
Horticulture book of Western Gardening.

2. On pruning, shearing, shaping, etc. This remains one of the great
mysteries for me, as pruning, cutting back, in medit climates seems to be
very different from that discussed in most horticulture books. In climates
such as mine, the dormant period is not winter, it is summer.
So, when do I shape Cistus? I am only interested in trying to tighten the
young ones up a bit and produce more branching.

Thanks in advance,
