I'm sure Gordon is right (of course I *have* to say an ex-Cumbrian is
right....) about the lack of sufficient warmth here for fruiting to
happen more than once in a.....decade (?)....
And many thanks to Alessandra for the additional local detail. The
information about 'my' Mr Cocker being a (distinctly hig level)
professional horticultur(al)ist does indeed make the confusion even
odder. But at least we do, collectively, finally, seem to have
unravelled it. The only thing I'm still not quite clear about is
whether there is a *different* liquor produced from the fruit of each
tree or whether the liquor is only derived from the medlar. Anyone?
And, yes, please, Alessandra, if you *can* find the recipe, I'd love
to have it - I have an insatiable, ah, thirst for such things....
And, finally, I hope the plant fair goes well!
