Re: Acacia spectabilis

Margaret,

Oh come on now Einion, confess all.....you and Tim are best mates aren't
you?

Guilty as charged, your honour! Although living the best part of 200 miles
apart, we usually get to meet up about once a year - probably the best way of
conducting a friendship...?

I'm always guaranteed a rapturous reception from him when I start on my
Aussie

plant common names. The wattles are almost as rich in these as
gumtrees....we have Mulga , Myall , Waddy Wood, Yarran, Coobah, Gidgee,
Gundabluey, Dead Finish and Wait-a-while.

Now you've got me pining for a Gundabluey - every home should have one.
Sadly, our APS was out of stock of A.spectabilis, so no Mudgees in this neck
of the woods. But I did get my seed of A.jonesii: is that called the Welsh
Wattle? It ought to be, surely?

BTW your A riceana is supposed to be tolerant of heavy frost and wet feet.

Hmm... I'll see if I can root a cutting of it before risking it outdoors. I
can't help feeling that heavy frost & wet feet are rather different in Wales
to what they are in Australia.

Prostanthera nivea can reach 2m or so. It enjoys a good prune [?].

I have had to cut it back slightly last year, where some of the branches were
growing out across the conservatory doorway. Thanks for that bit of info - it
will prove useful in future.

Cheers,

Einion
